Year 5: PAINTING skills

The painting process has begun! We are learning to paint in layers.
Layer 1: THE BASE...or 'ugly' layer. We won't see any of it but it's important for
adding vibrancy to our colours on the next layers. We don't need to mix fancy colours or blend.
Layer 2: BLENDING..this is where you can see how much we know about mixing
our own colours..tints (adding white) and shades (adding black). You will also see how clever we are at blending values of colour smoothly.
Eg: The Pea green boat- we have to mix what we think is a 'Pea green' colour...then make 2 more values of it to make it lighter or darker.

Layers 3-4: DETAIL.. here we add the extra smaller images (eg: the 

                the honey jar, money, stars. On top of that we also add

                very fine details such as highlights, feather or fur textures on the   

                cat & owl.

....Now we know why creating a painting takes most of the term....we paint like real artists and it's worth the extra effort!
